Practitioners

Dr. Kat Hopkins

Owner | Medical Director

DO, ACOFP, IFMCP, ABIHM, ABoIM

Dr. Hopkins is double board-certified in Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine, an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner and a Fellow of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine. Her passion for Integrative medicine began over twenty-five years ago when she did fieldwork in Ayurvedic medicine as an Anthropology student at the University of Wyoming. It was then that she knew she desired to combine the philosophies used in Ayurvedic Medicine with the practices of Family Medicine which she experienced while growing up as the daughter of a Family Practice physician in small town Iowa. Dr. Hopkins seamlessly integrates her medical training with her focus on nutrition and the microbiome, mindfulness, movement, connection to spirit and community to optimize your health and wellbeing.

Dr. Briana Rueda

Practitioner

DO, MS, ABFM, IFMCP

Dr. Rueda grew up with a passion for wellness.  Her interest in nutrition’s impact on health developed after completing a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the University of Minnesota.  She then went on to complete a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Practice at Rosalind Franklin University.  Dr. Rueda worked as PA in pain management and physical rehabilitation, gaining an appreciation for chronic pain, mobility, and their impacts on mental health and wellness.

Dealing with her own ailments and frustrated with the lack of answers, Dr. Rueda sought treatment with integrative medicine providers.  It was her success as an integrative medicine patient that led her to discover her ultimate calling as an integrative medicine physician.  She then went back to medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and sought out additional training in integrative medicine.

While studying medicine, Dr. Rueda continued pursuing her love of fitness, completing a marathon and competing in several bodybuilding competitions.  Dr. Rueda completed her residency in family medicine at the University of Utah, as well as her certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine. Dr. Rueda then did additional training in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.

Lisa Terhaar

Practitioner

APRN, CNP

Lisa attended Calvin University for her undergraduate nursing degree, and worked in hospitals in Youngstown, Ohio, as well as Denver, Colorado.  After moving to Minnesota in 2003 and working in various outpatient settings, Lisa decided it was time to take the next step.  She graduated from the University of Minnesota with her Master’s in Nursing in 2010, and worked for both Allina and Presbyterian Homes and Services as a nurse practitioner.  Her experience providing care in traditional settings, as well as experiencing her own parent’s decline, prompted Lisa to seek further education that focused on understanding the root cause of illness, as opposed to treating symptoms of disease.  This search led her to the Institute for Functional Medicine and also to training in the Bredesen Protocol for cognitive decline as well as the Wahls Protocol for autoimmune conditions.  She is passionate about supporting people who are looking to optimize their health using an integrative and functional approach.
